3. Understanding Negative Statement

The phrase means that the negative is not the right key to which the second speaker with the answers C means the man has the worng key . Negative term  is not the right key in negative expressions have the same meaning with a positive statement has the wrong key.

4. Statement By Means Negative adverb
TOEFL usually frequently used expressions and statements in the form of an adverb (Adverb) negtaif meaningful example hardly, barely, scarcely, rarely, seldom are all expressed meaning little, or almost never done.
hardly, barely, scarecely = mean little, almost no
rarely, seldom = mean almost never done / rare.

  • What does the man imply?
  • What does the man say about?
  • What does the man/woman mean?
Problem:
(Woman)         : Where you able to pay the electric bill?
(man)               : I had barely enough money.
(narattor)         : What does the man imply?
a. He had plenty of money for the bill                               c. He paid the bill but has no money left
b. He did not have enough money for the bill           d. he was unable to pay the bill
The adverb phrase barely spoken by the second speaker negative connotation and means the same as he did not have enough money for the bill.

5. Statement of Understanding Idioms
TOEFL question often use expressions and statements purporting Kontruksi phrase whose meaning is not the same as the combined meanings of its elements. It is known by the term idiom.
